Meet Jack – Firefighter and Valued Member of the GCRS Team

Jack is not only a dedicated firefighter but also one of our much-loved staff members here at GCRS, where he works as a Recreational Officer. His commitment to supporting others extends well beyond the call of duty.

A few weeks ago, while on shift at the fire station, Jack went above and beyond by organising a special visit for one of the participants he supports. He welcomed Keegs into the station, creating a memorable and meaningful experience that perfectly reflects Jack’s caring nature and dedication to making a difference.

We’re incredibly grateful to have Jack as part of the GCRS family – his passion, generosity, and heart for the community truly inspire us all.

Read a little bit more below about Jack, in his own words.

I’m currently working at GCRS as a day-to-day support and recreation worker, and I’ve been part of the team for just shy of four years now – aside from a short break when I joined the firefighter’s academy for four months.

While I don’t facilitate a specific program, I really enjoy the flexibility of working across different areas and with various clients. The variety keeps each day fresh and allows me to help out wherever I’m needed, which I find really rewarding.

Sport and social connection have always played a big role in my life. I love engaging with clients and peers through these shared interests. One of the things I value most about GCRS is the culture – everyone genuinely supports each other, and that sense of community makes it an incredibly positive and uplifting place to work.

Outside of work I’m a big outdoors and beach person, sunrise coffees are my happy place. I’m also a proud uncle and love spending time with my growing number of nieces and nephews. My background in rugby has shaped a lot of who I am – it taught me the value of teamwork, resilience, and supporting others.

Helping people is something that truly fulfils me. Life can be tough sometimes and being in a position to offer support, whether through this role or firefighting feels incredibly meaningful. Both jobs have their challenges, but I believe those tough days build strength and character. To me, that’s what living a purposeful life is all about.
