Our History

GCRS was established in 1979 by a group of individuals who wanted to create and deliver recreational opportunities for people with a disability.

A management committee was formed and activities and events were organised under the name of ‘Gold Coast Recreation for the Handicapped’.

Today, now known as ‘Gold Coast Recreation & Sport Inc’ or GCRS, the service has grown to provide a wide variety of sport and recreation programs within the community.

Our Facilities

Our community is important to us, and we are proud that most of our programs are embedded in our local community using inclusive community partners.

Despite most of our programs being out in the community, GCRS also prides itself on both offices in Southport and Varsity, as well as the 3 extra spaces we use for different purposes throughout the week!

Our Team

We currently have a team of 165 staff!

This includes 20 office / management staff working in two offices and 145 support staff.

We are incredibly proud of the team we have at GCRS, with each of us playing an important role in ensuring we provide the best support environment!

40% of our staff have worked at GCRS for over 5 years
