Our inaugural round of mentoring and funding began in February 2024 with 5 organisations leading the way with their inclusive services.

Meet the 2024 program recipients

Liz Uruci and Bughy a husband-and-wife team, own Gold Medal Gymnastics.

Bughy (Bogdan Uruci), is a former Romanian gymnast with 16 years competitive experience and 18 years coaching experience. He has represented Romania on the world stage.

Liz also brings a wealth of experience to the club with a background in sports marketing & events, having worked with Sydney FC, the NSW Waratahs and Ski Dubai.

At Gold Medal Gymnastics, our mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that every child learns fundamental skills thoroughly and safely. We believe in laying a strong foundation for their gymnastics journey while nurturing their holistic development as individuals.

  • Gold medal gymnastics are now running their sensory friendly program twice a week

Carlie Page is the founder of HAPY Studio – the happiest Aerial Arts Studio on the Gold Coast!  As an Aerial Instructor she helps people of all ages and abilities find the joy in movement. She has been sharing the journey of the Adaptive Aerial Arts Program that has been running since 2019.

  • Enhanced service delivery with 3 adaptive programs
  • Establishing a service provider contract with City Of Gold Coast Active & Healthy Program and Gold Coast Recreation and Sport
  • Enhancing program visibility and awareness

Jesse Noonan is the founder of Skate Advantage and RockNSlide Skateboarding. With a professional skateboarding career spanning the last 10 years, Jesse has dedicated himself to sharing his love for skateboarding with the world. His passion lies in making skateboarding an inclusive sport, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the thrill and joy of skateboarding.

Results from participating in the AIP

  • Rock N slide received independent funding to build their state of the art skateboarding frame (see video below) to ensure all people have accessibility to skateboarding.

Ben Noonan Roller Blaze opened in 2007 on the Gold Coast. It is an all inclusive program providing wheelchair basketball opportunities for the wider Gold Coast community. Everybody is welcome to play including able bodied players and families.

Results from participating in the AIP 

  • Roller Blaze have gone from running 2 competitions on game night to now running 3.
  • They have had an influx of new members, and the club has grown exponentially.
  • Enhanced program visibility and awareness
  • Increased club moral

Michael Thwaite Was a professional football player across Australia, Europe and Asia also representing the Socceroos. He now supports people with disability at Gold Coast Recreation and Sport and facilitates the accessible football program at Palm Beach Soccer Club.
