2032 Legacy In Motion Summit

What does it take to create a lasting legacy from Brisbane 2032?

That was the question at the heart of the 2032 Legacy in Motion Summit, held on 10 July at the Gold Coast Sport & Leisure Centre, bringing together leaders and changemakers from sport, recreation, health, education, government and community.

The Summit was designed to go beyond talking about the future and instead explore what we can do now to create a more inclusive, connected and equitable Gold Coast.

Through keynote presentations, interactive discussions, lived-experience perspectives and hands-on inclusion activations, participants were challenged to think differently about what inclusion really means. A strong theme emerging from the day was the difference between simply providing access and creating environments where people genuinely belong.

Post-event feedback reinforced the value of bringing different sectors and perspectives into the same room. Participants highlighted the importance of designing inclusion from the beginning, listening to lived experience, strengthening collaboration and recognising that inclusive sport and physical activity benefits everyone.

The conversations also challenged organisations to look beyond individual programs and consider the systems, culture and leadership that influence participation. Importantly, participants identified that meaningful change does not always require a major initiative. Small, practical actions, stronger partnerships and a willingness to challenge existing ways of doing things can create significant change when undertaken collectively.

A key message resonated throughout the Summit:

Legacy doesn’t begin in 2032. It begins with the decisions, partnerships and actions we take today.

The feedback has also helped shape the next phase of work for the Active Inclusion Program, including its longer-term strategy towards 2032 and opportunities for continued collaboration through the sector.

The Summit demonstrated that the Gold Coast already has an extraordinary network of passionate people, organisations and expertise.

The opportunity now is to connect those strengths, work together and turn ideas into action.

Six years out from Brisbane 2032, the legacy is already in motion.
