Bringing inclusion to life at the Gold Coast Sports Hub
Connecting sport, health, education and community to create more inclusive opportunities for people with disability.
Yesterday, Gold Coast Recreation & Sport Inc. (GCRS) brought together a diverse group of allied health professionals, university representatives, government stakeholders and community organisations for an Active Inclusion Program (AIP) Community of Practice at the Gold Coast Sports Hub in Clear Island Waters.
Held in partnership with the Gold Coast Sports Hub, the event provided an opportunity to explore how collaboration across sport, health, recreation and community services can help break down barriers and create more accessible physical activity opportunities for people with disability.
Attendees experienced a guided tour of the Hub’s developing, state-of-the-art inclusive facilities, including its Allied Health spaces and accessible gym environment. Practical demonstrations from Goalball and FitLife Martial Arts showcased how adapted and inclusive activities can support participation, build confidence and create welcoming environments for people of all abilities.
The event also created valuable opportunities for attendees to connect, share knowledge and explore potential partnerships, referrals and pathways between their respective sectors.
The Gold Coast Sports Hub is developing an integrated precinct that brings together sport and recreation, allied health, fitness, wellbeing and community engagement in one location. The showcase highlighted the potential for facilities like this to support more connected services and make participation in physical activity more accessible.
The AIP Community of Practice is an important part of GCRS’s commitment to building a more inclusive Gold Coast. Delivered in collaboration with the Active & Healthy Alliance Gold Coast, the program supports local organisations and businesses to strengthen their capacity to include people with disability in sport, fitness, wellness and recreation.
By bringing different sectors together to share experiences, learn from one another and identify practical solutions, the program continues to build a network committed to making inclusion part of everyday practice.
A big thank you to the Gold Coast Sports Hub for hosting us, our activity partners for showcasing inclusive opportunities, and everyone who attended and contributed to the conversations.
Together, we are helping create a Gold Coast where everyone has the opportunity to be active, connected and included.
