SUMMARY:Annual Athletics Championships
DESCRIPTION:Annual Athletics Championships  \n  \nBeginning in 1986\, the Gold Coast Cabs Annual Athletics Championships has grown from 80 athletes from 3 schools to today catering for over 1000 athletes from 35 schools \nIt is the only event in South-East Queensland that is specifically for children with a disability\, focusing on participation along with providing a valuable stepping stone for children wishing to progress to a competitive level. \n  \nThe Event Day \nThe day commences with a march past at 9.15 am with each school parading the athletics oval dressed to match their chosen theme. This is followed by the official opening ceremony with the lighting of the flame – the events equivalent to the Olympic flame. \nThere are approximately 400 events including track sprints\, wheelchair events\, a sports skills challenge and a Goodwill Games component. \nThe majority of these students seldom get the opportunity to participate on a competitive level. \n  \nThe People \nGold Coast Recreation & Sport Inc will be holding the event for its 32nd year at Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre.
